Editing with the Heart: The Session That Made Me Question Everything

When I started photography, I had a fascination with fantasy style editing. This was inspired through a photographer back home, Dee's Vintage Photography. I just absolutely loved her style and wanted to be like her when I grew up!

Flash forward to when I started my business here in California. Let's face it. I had NO clue what I wanted. No idea. I just wanted to take good pictures. So I started editing in a very clean editing style, and this is pretty much what I've stuck with.

Last week, I had a session with a beautiful couple. It was amazing. It was intimate. I loved editing their session, and I can't lie: I had a smile on my face pretty much the whole time.

Sometimes, as photographers, we have sessions that speak to us. Sometimes, we change editing styles accordingly. And that's okay.

I was sitting here about half an hour ago freaking out because I had no idea what I was going to do. I LOVED this session that I had edited, to the point that I was debating switching my whole business and redoing my entire website to match this style.

But then I thought.

"Why? I like my regular editing style. It's okay to do something different sometimes." 

The moral of the story is that photographers click that shutter with their heart. They think "what can I do to make this magical?"

So that's what I did. Sometimes photographer go to places or meet certain people, and it inspires an avalanche of creativity. 

Sometimes photographers are inspired by the moment, the location, and the people they meet. This happened recently in a beautifully intimate session with a gorgeous couple, and in that moment, I had to do something different. I had to edit emotionally.
